A former bowls club is set to re-open in Coalville next year in a project that aims to bring residents together and promote community spirit.

North West Leicestershire District Council is inviting people of all ages and abilities to register their interest to join Scotlands Park Bowls Club, including those that are looking to try something new to improve their health and wellbeing.

The club is located on Forest Road, Coalville, LE67 3SP and residents can register their interest by emailing [email protected] or calling 01530 454755.

The club hopes to be up and running by next April.

Scotlands Park Bowls Club was originally formed in the 1960s with the first recorded club championships taking place in 1963.

In 2018, the club took the decision to close its doors and now the district council is working with Bowls Leicestershire and residents from Coalville and the surrounding area to reform the club to boost community morale and the health and wellbeing of local people.

To encourage residents to find out more about what the sports club has to offer, families will be invited to an open weekend in April to get an insight into what it would be like to be a member.

More details will be released nearer the time and will take into account the latest available Covid-19 guidance at that time.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC said: "Bringing bowls back to Scotlands Park will be great for local community, bringing a new sporting opportunity back to the area and fits in with our efforts to promote health and wellbeing in North West Leicestershire.

"Bowls is a great team sport which the whole family can take part in and people of all ages and abilities are welcome to get involved.

"If you know one of your friends or family members that would be interested in playing bowls at the club, please encourage them to get involved and register their interest."
