Coalville Purse Appeal Couple Win £1,000 Prize On Top ITV Show

By Graham Hill 11th Feb 2020

The Coalville couple who made an emotional appeal for the return of a stolen purse won £1,000 on national television on Tuesday morning.

Pauline and Geoffrey Walker appeared on ITV's award-winning This Morning show with Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

And they were invited to play the Spin To Win game - where a wheel can stop on any number of cash prizes.

It landed on £1,000 in a special edition of the game which was 'only for special occasions'.

Pauline, 86, and Geoffrey, 89, who live in Thringstone, were on the show to talk about their online weekend appeal which went viral.

A tearful Pauline appeared on Instagram as husband Geoffrey explained that a purse had been stolen which not only contained money but also personal items including family telephone numbers.

Speaking from their home in Thringstone, the pair told Phil and Holly what had happened, and how the number of their Instagram followers had surged in the past few days.

Pauline told viewers: "I went to have a bit of something to eat and drink, I took my food to the table and I hadn't got my drink, I went back up and I think that's when my purse was stolen."

She added that she was surprised by the wave of support for her after the video clip went online.

"I was really surprised, I couldn't believe what good friends we've got, I was offered so many purses and I've also had a bouquet of flowers delivered."

But Pauline said the purse has yet to be found.

"No, there's a lot of people looking for it, but I don't think they'll find it," she said.

But Geoffrey says the couple are now looking on the positive side.

"We've moved on now, we don't dwell on negative things too long, we like to present a happy face," he said.

"Our Instagram page has now had 40-50,000 extra followers in the last two or three days."

Holly interjected: "I think you'll find that goes up again after this!"

Geoffrey added: "People are sending us private messages, we've got thousands and so we'll have to say, we're sorry, we cannot read them all. It's been overwhelming."
