Transport Planner
Menzies Distribution Solutions are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join our team at our Central Planning Centre in Coalville. The planning team organises the delivery and collection of product on behalf of Menzies Distribution Solutions Limited and its customers across multiple sites, covering various different contracts.
Please note the successful applicant will have experience specifically in a previous Planning Role. We plan solely Class 1 vehicles and are a busy general haulage 3PL company
The Details
- Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 08:30-18:00 / 47.5 Hours Per Week
- Salary: £36,949.50k Per Annum
- Holiday: 33 Days or 25 + 8 Bank Holidays

Important information
- Planning a varied customer base ranging from day 1 2 planning operation up to day 1- 4. Customers range from Production customers, Packaging customers, Retail customer, etc.
- As much info shared with planners as possible to improve knowledge and help influence decisions to create a successful plan for all key stakeholders.
- Financial performance for area of responsibility shared weekly.
- Planners will have set targets to achieve, which you will be supported by the business to achieve. Targets are continuously monitored throughout the week and trends discussed and reported
- Planners have control on decision making when it comes to runs planned, loads subbed, reloads, etc.
- There is full support given from the large team of planners and lead planners that sit within the Planning Centre who all work together to resolve all issues and cover any hot spots.
- No 2 days are the same and no bus route planning.
- Manual planning and load building using our TMS system
Transport Planner Requirements
- Must be both proactive and reactive in approach.
- Regular structured updates form customers lead to plan changes throughout the day that we have to react to and work within the team and wider network to resolve.
- Excellent decision-making skills, planners are given the control of their area of responsibility to sub contract loads and negotiate rates, reload vehicles using our internal network or customer network, plan own fleet to set targets.
- Knowledge of a 3PL operation
- Ability to use multiple TMS systems and customer systems.
- Ability to work well within a team, each plan delivered is a team effort as everyone works together to resolve all issues and support where support is needed.
- Ability to understand and demonstrate understanding of reports and be able to explain planned vs actual variances.
- Must have a positive approach and attitude and be bale to deal with at times, the stressful and difficult challenges within the industry
